The Aflac Holiday Duck keeps family tradition alive

For more than 20 years, the Aflac Holiday Duck has held a special place in the Armstrong family from South Carolina. John and Nan Armstrong purchased the small gifts for their children and grandchildren during a holiday shopping trip in 2001. The quacking collectible was a huge hit and immediately became part of the family’s Christmas memories. As the Armstrong flock grew over the years, so did their Aflac Holiday Duck collection. Last year brought the first Christmas without John and Nan, but a special delivery helped continue their holiday tradition.

Losing both his mom and brother to cancer motivated 2021 Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Smart to team up with Aflac and Be The Match^®. He shares how a lifesaving marrow or stem cell transplant can be the game-changer for patients with blood cancer or a blood disorder. Quack about it

This year, more than 6,000 My Special Aflac Ducks^® were distributed to help bring comfort and joy to children diagnosed with pediatric cancer or sickle cell disease. Have you or someone you know received one? Everyone has a tale to tell, and we want to know yours!

The gift of grants

Twelve child life programs across the U.S. each received a $2,500 grant from The Aflac Childhood Cancer Foundation, Inc. for their work helping to reduce stress and anxiety among pediatric patients with cancer and blood disorders. Funding supports new and existing programs like UPMC Children’s Hospital Dream Big Studio, an in-house broadcast that provides entertainment to patients during their stay.
